Biography
One of the most prominent Spanish violinists of today, Miguel Borrego Martín won Spain´s National Music Award in 2013. A very versatile musician, he is the concertmaster of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and performs as soloist with main symphony orchestras. A committed chamber musician, has led him to appear at major festivals and venues around the world. He was the founder of the Arbós Trio and performed with the group for over 16 years. More recently he co-founded the Trío Acento with violist David Fons and cellist Javier Albaréz.
As a soloist Miguel Borrego has played as soloist with the National Orchestra of Spain, the RTVE Orchestra, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Community of Madrid Orchestra, the Segovia Chamber Orchestra, the Navarra Symphony Orchestra, the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Region of Murcia, the National Orchestra of Ukraine, the National Orchestra of El Salvador, the University of Toronto Orchestra and the Colorado Springs Summer College Orchestra. In addition to playing works the standard violin concerto repertory, including Vivaldi´s Four Seasons or violin concertos by Beethoven, Lalo, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Barber or Sarasate, he has performed works by living composers such as Jesus Torres Violin Concerto which he dedicated to Miguel Borrego Martin and which he premiered with the RTVE Orchestra in 2012. Jesús Torres won the National Music Prize that same year.
Miguel Borrego Martína has played in more than 30 countries in venues and festivals such as the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Colón Theater in Buenos Aires, the Kuhmo Festival, the Venice Biennale, the National Auditorium in Madrid, the Wittener Tage. FürNeue Kammermusic, Viitasaari Time of Music Festival, Nuova Consonanza de Roma, International Festival of Camagúey, NUMUS Festivals of Toronto, MUSICA Festival of Strasbourg, International Festival of El Salvador, International Festival of Santorini, Ryedale Festival, Quincena Musicalk Donostiarra, Festival Alicante International Contemporary Music Festival, Santander Festival, Valencia Ensems, Granada International Music Festival, Teatro Real Madrid, Teatro Central de Sevilla, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Teatro Monumental of Madrid, Teatro Principal de Mallorca and the Juan March Foundation.
He has shared the stage with directors such as Pinchas Steinberg, Walter Weller, George Pelivanian, Jesús López Cobos, Sergiu Comissiona, Antoni Ros Marbá, Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Enrique García Asensio, etc.
His interest in the music today has led him to release numerous works by such prestigious composers sucha as Toshio Hosokawa, Cristóbal Halffter, Luis de Pablo, Beat Furrer, Iván Fedele, Georges Aperghis, Cesar Camarero and Mauricio Sotelo.
He has recorded for the Spanish Television, National Radio of Spain, and for the labels Col legno, Naxos, Ensayo, Fundación autor, Kairos, and Verso.
